Microchip Pet Identification
Microchipping is the preferred method of identifying your pets.  Your pet should wear proper identification tags, but in some instances, tags can become lost or worn down so they are hard to read.  In the past, pets were identified with tattoos but it has been found that tattoos can blur over time, making it hard to read, and it is easy to tamper with. Microchips are the size of a grain of rice, preloaded into a syringe.  It is injected under the skin between the shoulder blades, similar to the procedure for administering vaccinations.

Once the microchip is in place, owners must register their pet with the HomeAgain Pet Recovery Service.  There is a one time enrollment fee $17.50.  If your pet becomes lost, animal shelters and local veterinarians are able to scan for the microchip and find your information so that your pet may be returned.

We recommend that identification collars be used in addition to microchiping.  Microchips may be placed in cats, dogs, birds, and exotics.
